Biography
In 1856-56 he studied at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts under Christian Breslauer, then at the Munich Academy, where he was active in the circle of Jozef Brandt. In 1880 he returned to Poland and lived successively in Kielce, Cracow, Warsaw, Mazovia and Volhynia. He repeatedly won foreign prizes: in 1872, 1874, 1877 and 1879 (gold medal in London, in 1873 in Vienna). He painted mainly landscapes (of Bavaria, Tyrol, the Alps and Poland). He was inspired by French landscape painters (Corot and the Barbizon school) and the art of Maximilian Gierymski. His works are exhibited at the National Museum in Cracow and Warsaw, among others.
