Biography
Studied at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts in 1849-54. In 1863 he went to France and settled permanently in Paris. He exhibited at the Paris Salons, receiving several decorations and awards, as well as in Brussels, Berlin, Vienna, London and New York. He also showed his works many times in Poland - in Warsaw, Cracow and Lviv. Initially he painted city views, landscapes, genre scenes and paintings of Polish history. In Paris, he gained recognition and popularity especially for scenes from French history, as well as intimate salon compositions with refined ladies in rich, historic interiors.
