Władysław BAKAŁOWICZ [1833-1903] took his first painting lessons at the School of Fine Arts in Warsaw from where he went to France in 1863. In his early years, he painted portraits, genre scenes and historical and genre scenes with Polish themes. However, the most representative in his oeuvre were historical and genre scenes from the history of France in the 16th and 17th centuries.Bakalovich exhibited his works at the Paris Salons (1865-1883), in Brussels, Berlin, Vienna, London and New York. In Poland, he also exhibited at the Zachęta Gallery in Warsaw, the TPSP in Cracow and the Krywult Salon. His works are in museum collections in Warsaw and Krakow.
