JOB DESCRIPTION:
In the art of the Young Poland master Stanislaw Wyspianski, the main means of expression was the line, with the help of which, with great dexterity of hand, the painter immortalized with artistic panache frames observed with a penetrating gaze. In his works he used a variety of motifs, most often floral, which were the result of careful studies from nature. Among the artist's greatest and widely known achievements is the creation of polychrome and stained glass windows for the Franciscan Church in Cracow.
The presented work "Swallows (Smokejumpers)" shows studies of the title animals with characteristic plumage. Significantly, thanks to, among other things, Stanisław Wyspiański's letters to Lucjan Rydel and Wladyslaw Ekielski's memoirs, it is known that the artist intended to create a frieze on the walls of the aforementioned Franciscan temple with representations of flying birds, among which swallows were also to appear. With some caution, therefore, it can be assumed that the offered work "Swallows (Swallows)" was created on this very occasion and was connected with design work for the polychrome.
