Stanislaw KLIMOWSKI
1891 Kraków - 1982 Katowice
Painter and sculptor, studied at the Cracow Academy of Fine Arts under Teodor Axentowicz, Jacek Malczewski and Konstanty Laszczka. In 1920 he moved to Wiśnicz, where he lived from 1920-1934 and 1940-1947. Enchanted by the beauty of this locality, he recorded it in countless landscapes. His paintings brilliantly depict the atmosphere of interwar Wiśnicz, a town living in the shadow of a castle, and strong and active Bochnia. He also perfected his portrait art, creating images of people from his closest surroundings: women and men, and above all, children, excellent technically, while at the same time characterized by extraordinary psychological insight. He also made religious paintings. In the postwar years, he was a teacher at the High School of Fine Arts in Wisnica (1951-1961). In 1961 he settled in Katowice. The painter's works, remaining in the hands of his family after his death, became the basis for the establishment of the private Stanislaw Klimowski Museum in Nowy Wisnicz.
