Brother of painter Bronislawa Rychter-Janowska, husband of Gabriela Zapolska (1901-1910). From 1882 to 1886 studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under J. Jablonski, F. Szynalewski and W. Luszczkiewicz. From 1887 to 1890 he continued his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich under J.C. Herterich and A. Liezen-Mayer. In 1912 he became a professor at the Free Academy of Art in Lviv. His first exhibition was held in 1886 at TPSP in Krakow. He painted landscapes, portraits, genre and hunting scenes, and made many drawings and watercolors of military subjects during his service in the Legions.
