Stanislaw KORZENIEWSKI
1882 Kovno - 1942 Munich
Painter associated mainly with the Munich community. He probably began his artistic studies while still in Poland, while in 1895 he entered the Munich Academy of Fine Arts, where he studied until around 1900 under K. Raupp. In 1903 he joined the Kunstverein; he was also a member of the Münchener Künstler-Genossenschaft. After the outbreak of World War I, he had to leave Munich due to his political activities. He participated in the Greater Poland Uprising. After the end of hostilities, he returned to Munich. He became friends with Stanislaw Przybyszewski. He took a lively part in the Polish exhibition movement; he presented his works with the Warsaw TZSP, the Krywult Salon, the Lviv and Cracow TPSP and in Poznan. He exhibited many times in Munich and Berlin. His early work was dominated by landscapes and genre subjects, including forest motifs from Polesia, as well as scenes of fishermen's lives blended into the landscape. Over time, he concentrated on portrait painting, mainly in its salon variety. He also took up fairy-tale and fantasy themes.
