The play of chiaroscuro painted on the plane of a white wall and a small window, plus the juicy, deep green, almost growing out of the frame of the painting, make this composition by Jaxa-Małachowski extremely artistic. Noteworthy is the composition's subject matter, which, seemingly uninteresting, the artist depicted with all his painterly artistry and ingenuity. Depictions of rural buildings, streams or forest paths appeared on the artist's canvases during his stays in his hometown Wolanow, and also as a result of visits to his sister in the Uszkowice or Kimirz estates. The October Revolution, which broke out in 1917, directly affected the Jaxy-Malachowski family. Their estate in Wolanow was confiscated. The resulting paintings thus acquired even greater sentimental value.
