Artwork description:
Soter Jax-Malachowski's paintings are particularly known for their marine landscapes. During the interwar period, the artist traveled to the Baltic Sea almost every year. He presented his marine-themed paintings at exhibitions at TPSP in Krakow and Lviv, as well as at Warsaw's TZSP.
In his seaside compositions, the painter conveyed the mood of the place. In the work on display, he depicted a densely vegetated, high cliff with a sandy beach underneath it, with single rocks and colorful vegetation, as well as stones left on the shore probably after the last high tide.
The painting is characterized by lightness in its depiction of the sea waves and ephemeral overcast sky. The work is part of the mainstream of Soter Jax-Malachowski's work.
