In Roman Bratkowski's paintings, the motif of a stormy sea has recurred many times, not infrequently, as in the presented example, enlivened by silhouettes of soaring seagulls. The artist used interesting compositional and luministic treatments in his marine-themed paintings, which give his works a unique character.
The offered painting shows a seascape. The white, foamy waves of the restless sea crash majestically against the rocky coastline. The colors stand out from both the dark brown rocks and the green of the sea. The representation is extremely dynamic, influenced by the diagonal lines of the sea waves shown in motion and the flying seagulls cutting through the air. The tranquility, meanwhile, is delightfully contrasted by the relatively dark sky with only lightly moving clouds.
