Biography
Rajmund Kanelba (Kanelbaum) (1897 Warsaw - 1960 London) - Polish painter of Jewish origin working under the strong influence of the École de Paris movement. He studied painting at the Warsaw School of Fine Arts under Stanislaw Lentz and Tadeusz Pruszkowski. He continued his painting studies at the academy in Vienna and Paris. Since 1926 he settled permanently in Paris where he established artistic relations with the Montparnasse community. In 1927 he went on an open-air painting trip to Pont-Aven, and from 1928 he became involved in the activities of the Polish Artists Group, which existed in Paris. Since 1936, he traveled extensively between England, the US and, after the war, France. He painted images of women, flowers, interiors and street views. He presented his work in solo exhibitions in Paris (1928,1932 and 1933), Berlin (1931), Warsaw (1932), Lodz (1933), London (1936 and 1941), New York (1937,1947,1952,1958 and posthumous 1961), Edinburgh (1942 and 1944), Glasgow (1943) and in many group exhibitions in Poland and abroad.
