oil/doubled canvas, 70.5x54 cm
The painting by Pierre Sublerays came from the collection of King Stanislaw August Poniatowski and is still in the collection of the Royal Baths. In her opinion, Maria Kluk does not exclude that: "this work is identical to the painting mentioned by Benedict Tyszkiewicz as remaining in the possession of Prince Eustachy Kajetan Sapieha (188-1963) until 1944." He also emphasizes the qualities of the composition: "The painting, although a copy of an existing original work, is valuable evidence of the reception of this work in Poland, and is also an exceptionally interesting example of the popularity of depictions of oriental, exotic themes. Painted with a skilful brush [...] it is an exceptionally valuable and highly decorative object". It can be added that the painting bears some characteristics of the compositions that came out of Bacciarelli's Paint Shop as copies made at the king's request.
