O.Meister was born in Dresden, studied at the academies of Düsseldorf, Berlin and Dresden. In 1921 he received a Rompreis prestigious scholarship in Rome. In 1934, the Third Reich declared Cubism, Dadaism, Expressionism, among others, to be "degenerate art," and Meister was placed alongside famous painters on the list of artists banned from exhibiting and selling. Therefore, few of his works have survived. One of them, "St. Anthony," was at the Van Ham house auction in 2011. Not to be confused with his peer, a Swiss popular artist with the same name.
