[OFLAG Xa - Itzehoe, cultural life]. A collection of 26 sheets with drawings and watercolors made by the prisoners of Oflag Xa in Itzehoe, much of it related to the camp theater that operated there.
The sheets are largely close in format to A4. The first group consists of 12 caricatures done in ink, some also in gouache, showing the POWs also during rehearsals and theater performances. The caricatures are signed "ppor Wajlur", and the names of the officers portrayed are given (e.g., Maj. Jarnuszkiewicz, Lt. Gutowski, Lt. Ok Ok-Kulak, Lt. Przybysławski, Capt. Hellebrand, Lt. Kisieliński). The second group consists of 5 watercolor scenographic sketches depicting a theater scene or its background. The designs were made by I. Warchalowski S. Lubczynski (one anonymous design) for the realization of the programs: In the Spanish Night, We are leaving for the summer resort, Harvest Festival. The last two show a bar and an opium smoking room. Another group consists of 7 watercolors and drawings depicting horses. All works are signed with the bound monogram G. M. and dated autumn 1941. The group is completed by a group drawing portrait of officers at a naming feast and a decorative card with a clock dedicated to the theater director. Objects in good to very good condition.
Oflag Xa - one of the first officers' prisoner of war camps established in the Third Reich. It was located in Itzehoe, near Hamburg. Officers who were taken prisoner in the September campaign were sent to the camp. .
