Rest at the tavern, 1849, signed and dated 1849 lower left. Drinking rider at the tavern, signed lower right. The Dutch painter had been active in Germany since around the mid-1840s. In the present pictures with depictions of travelers resting at a tavern, he thematically follows the tradition of Dutch genre painting of the 17th century. In the painting style and bright colors, he shows himself to be a child of his time. Oil on canvas, 29.5 × 42.5 cm each
