Mieczyslaw Filipkiewicz, younger brother of painter Stefan; studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow from 1910 to 1915 with Stanisław Dębicki, Teodor Axentowicz and Józef Pankiewicz. He then studied
in Vienna, and in 1921-1923 again in Cracow under Wojciech Weiss. He exhibited from 1925; mainly at the Cracow Society of Friends of Fine Arts, receiving several awards.

He painted Tatra and seaside landscapes, as well as still lifes and flowers, and less frequently figural compositions. He was involved in applied graphics and applied art.
