Biography
Mieczyslaw Filipkiewicz was the younger brother of Stefan, also a painter. Between 1910 and 1915, he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow under Stanisław Dębicki, Teodor Axentowicz and Jozef Pankiewicz. Later he studied in Vienna, and again in 1921-1923 in Cracow under Wojciech Weiss. He exhibited from 1925; mainly at the Cracow Society of Friends of Fine Arts, receiving several awards. He painted Tatra and seaside landscapes, as well as still lifes and flowers, and less frequently figural compositions. He was also involved in applied graphics and applied art.
