Danzig painter of historical scenes, genre landscapes and portraits. He began his artistic studies in 1871 at the Berlin Academy in the studio of Julius Schrader. After completing his studies, he returned to Danzig in 1874. He lived and worked primarily in his hometown, where he belonged to the Danzig Artists' Union, which was housed in the former Katownia. Sturmhoefel painted and described views of the Old Town and romantic genre scenes.
