Maria Sperling (sister of painter Irena Weissowa "Aneri") studied at the music conservatory in Cracow and, from 1918, at the local Academy of Fine Arts under Professor Jozef Mehoffer. From 1922 she lived in France. She was involved in easel painting, collage, mosaics and textiles. She was the wife of Józef Jarema. Associated for many years with southern France and Italy, she combined the characteristic geometric styling of the Ecole de Paris with luscious colors and rich painting textures. She has had many solo exhibitions, mainly in France as well as Italy and the United States. In 1969, she exhibited in Cracow and Warsaw. Her works are in the National Museum in Cracow and the Art Museum in Lodz.
