"His line, rather crude line, has above all an incredibly strong and decisive accent, and it is the main value in his paintings. In addition, his modeling of heads is characteristic. It consists in a minimal emphasis on the solidity of the head, so as not to tear the overall decorative patch, but in fact it is so sophisticated that the character of the model is expressed a hundred times more strongly than the most laborious extraction of the third dimension on the picture plane could achieve."
