Characteristic physiognomy of a man in regional headgear, shown against a background of trees. Clearly alludes to the portrait principles of the Munich Academy. The mustachioed model is shown wearing a so-called celendra, a felt hat, which is an element of folk costume. Kochanowski Roman (1857-1945), painter. He took his first painting lessons from M. Cercha, then studied at the Krak. SSP (with W. Luszczkiewicz). He also studied at the Vienna Academy. From 1881 he lived in Munich, Fürstenfeldenbrück and Freising. He painted mainly lyrical landscapes, covered with a characteristic silvery haze and enriched with small figures of staffage - at first from the Podkrak region, then from Bavaria. They brought him great popularity (especially in Munich). They were bought, among others, by Emperor Franz Joseph (Autumn, 1892).
