Oil, cardboard; size: 30 x 47 cm; signed l.d. K. Rettich Capri 1885.
Framed work. Classic painting by the German landscape painter, member of the Allgemeine Deutsche Kunstgenossenschaft, winner of prizes at exhibitions in London (1874) and Munich (1876). The artist studied landscape painting under the leading symbolist painter Arnold Böcklin, author of the famous series entitled "Island of the Dead." Bathed in the Mediterranean sunshine, the landscape by Rettlich is devoid of the dark, gloomy atmosphere of Böcklin's works. It is characterized by a bright color palette and an interesting diagonal composition.
