Jozef Israëls (born January 27, 1824 in Groningen, died August 12, 1911 in Scheveningen) - Dutch painter and printmaker.
At first he painted romantic paintings with biblical and historical themes, later he painted realistic scenes of the life of the urban poor (such as the Old Age Peddler), fishermen and the Jewish ghetto, usually in atmospheric lighting and against a backdrop of poor interiors or a seaside landscape. His work influenced Liebermann and the early paintings of van Gogh. He had a son, Isaac, who painted portraits and genre scenes.
