The offered watercolor is an illustration of the legend of the tragic story of lovers Tristan and Isolde, recreated in 1900 by Jozef Bédier and translated in 1925 by Tadeusz Boy-Żeleński. The story, which has its roots in a Celtic tale, became very popular and inspired many medieval literary works. The illustration by Jan Marcin Szancer was first published in the 1989 edition, which was published by the "Alfa" Publishing House.
