dimensions: 28.7 x 38.7 cm
Jan Jacob SPOHLER one of the greatest masters of winter landscape of his time, a worthy successor to Andreas Schelfhout (1787-1870). Teacher of his two sons, Jan Jacob Coenraad (1827 - 1923) and Johannes Franciscus (1853 - 1894). He trained at the Amsterdam Academy under Jan Willem Pieneman (1779-1853). In 1845 he was appointed a member of it. He worked mainly in Amsterdam, but also visited Haarlem, Brussels, The Hague, Rotterdam and Leiden. Like his teacher, his work focused on capturing the fleeting mood of the Dutch landscape. His paintings can be seen in the Teyler Museum in Haarlem, the Stedelijk Museum in Amsterdam, museums in Broederpoort, Kampen and private collections around the world, among others.
