Jan BUKOWSKI
1873 - 1943
Studied at the School of Fine Arts in Krakow from 1893 to 1900 with W. Luszczkiewicz, T. Axentowicz, L. Wyczółkowski, J. Malczewski and J. Unierzyski. He continued his studies on a scholarship in Munich at the Neumann and Wolff School of Printmaking. He exhibited his works at the Society of Friends of Fine Arts in Cracow from 1899. He was a member of the Society of Polish Artists Art and co-organizer of the Society of Polish Applied Art. He painted landscapes, portraits and genre scenes. He practiced mural painting. He made church polychromes on commission. He was also involved in book graphics - designing covers, initials. In 1904-1915 he was the artistic director of the university printing house, and in 1907-1908 he was the manager of the stained glass factory of S. Zeleński in Cracow.
