Jan Barszczynski (1879-1951) was a postmaster in Krakow and an acquaintance of the artist. In 1925-1926 Jacek Malczewski made several portraits and drawings depicting Barszczyński and his immediate family.
"While female models in the course of many years of Malczewski's mature work cyclically changed in terms of beauty, in the case of male models, in some way close to the painter, even if they were also affected by rotation over a long period of time, they constantly present the same type of beauty, and to a large extent the style of clothing in which they appear in the paintings." D. Kudelska, "The Duct of Writing and Brush. The intellectual biography of Jacek Malczewski", Lublin 2008, pp. 763-764
