Ivan TRUSZ
1868 Vysotsk - 1940 Lviv
He studied painting in 1892-97 at the School of Fine Arts in Cracow under the direction of I. Jablonski, W. Luszczkiewicz, J. Unierzyski, L. Löffler, L. Wyczółkowski and J. Stanislawski, and also as a free student attended the Vienna Academy for several weeks in 1894. In 1897, after receiving a government scholarship, he studied briefly at A. Abé's private studio in Munich. After his studies, he traveled extensively; he visited Rome, Palestine, Egypt and the Crimea (he was there twice, among other things, because of his work on preparing illustrations for A. Mickiewicz's Crimean Sonnets). He settled permanently in Lviv. Here he also had three individual exhibitions of his works. From 1902 he also presented his paintings at the TPSP in Cracow. He painted primarily landscapes - atmospheric vast Ukrainian steppes and fields, and landscapes from his travels. He also created portraits and genre scenes of Hutsul life. In addition, he was involved in illustration and art criticism. Ivan Trush went to Kiev for the first time in 1900, and later traveled there many times. At that time he created paintings depicting views of the city and landscapes from its surroundings.
