oil, panel, dimensions 50 x 70 cm, signed p. d. "g Wichmann"
Work by the outstanding German painter Georg Wichmann (1876 - 1944), educated in the academies of Berlin, Breslau and Karlsruhe, but loyal to the Karkonosze Mountains. The artist lived in Szklarska Poreba from 1903, with which he was associated for most of his artistic life. He was a co-founder of the artistic Brotherhood of St. Luke. Painted in a post-impressionist manner, his paintings, mostly of Karkonosze landscapes, are characteristic of his work, and the Snowy Cauldrons, which he had a view of from his studio windows, are perhaps the most frequently immortalized of all his mountain views. His works are in museums in Wroclaw, Jelenia Gora, German museums and numerous private collections.
