Emile E. Semenowsky (1857-1911) was a Polish-French painter who gained recognition for his and Oriental scenes. He was probably born in Poland, to a Jewish family or of Jewish descent. Semenowsky studied art in Paris, where he spent most of his life. His works are characterized by exceptional attention to detail, subtle use of color and the ability to convey the emotions and character of his figures.
In his work, he often turned to oriental themes, inspired by his travels in the Middle East and North Africa, and painted genre scenes in an antique style. His paintings of women in exotic costumes, harem scenes or portraits of young girls became extremely popular with art collectors. Semenowsky was able to masterfully combine realism with romanticism, which made his works extremely attractive.
In the 1980s the artist lived in Paris, and most of his works come from this period as well. He worked on commissions from the Parisian bourgeoisie. Today his paintings are in private collections, and his work continues to fascinate and inspire art lovers.
