He studied at the School of Decorative Arts and Artistic Industry in Poznan. He also benefited from private lessons and correction by Julian Fałat. He was friends with Karol Kossak (Jerzy's cousin), with whom he perfected his artistic technique in Jerzy's studio. He painted genre, battle and historical scenes, and his work shows the influence of both Jerzy and his great father and grandfather. Some of his paintings are - as it were - pastiches of popular works by the Kossaks , such as Napoleon's Retreat from under Moscow, Lancer's Pursuit of the Bolsheviks and Hussar with a Horse in a Winter Landscape. Probably for this reason he was referred to by some as the Torun Kossak.
