German painter born September 14, 1847 in Munich. He initially studied with his father, who was a painter at the court of King Ludwig I of Bavaria, and with Munich miniaturist Carl Restallino, followed by Josef Schertl and Johann Gottfreid. His first exhibition in Munich took place in 1869. In 1884 he took over the then established class of landscape painting at the Breslau School of Art. From 1887 to 1913 he taught an etching class there. In 1887 he received the title of professor. He died on September 9, 1928 at his home in Karpacz.
