Boleslaw Buyko (Bujko) was born in 1878 in Vilnius and died in 1939 in Nice. He initially studied at the Drawing School of Ivan Trutnev in Vilna, and from 1896 studied at the School of Fine Arts in Krakow, in the studios of Jacek Malczewski, Alfred Daun and Leon Wyczółkowski. In 1902, he completed his studies and permanently moved to Paris. There, he made his debut at the Autumn Salon in 1904 and quickly gained recognition. After the outbreak of World War II, he moved to Nice, where he died.
