August MANSFELD
1816 Vienna - 1901 Vienna
Austrian painter, specialized in genre scenes and portraits; H.Fuchs also mentions landscapes by him (cf. H.Fuchs, Die Österreichischen Maler des 19. Jarhunderts, vol. III, Wien 1973, pp. K 37, 89-91). He was active in Vienna and Dresden Academy circles. This portrait represents the type of Biedermeier bourgeois portraiture formed in Austria and Germany in the second and third decades of the 19th century. Excellent drawing, delicately and smoothly laid texture, thoughtful choice of colors make this work a very interesting and high artistic value example of portrait painting .
