Lot description
63 × 50 cm

Frans de Hamilton belonged to the De Hamilton family of artists from Scotland who mainly painted animals and still lifes. Frans de Hamilton worked as a traveling artist at various princely courts in Germany, in Potsdam, Hanover, Munich, Baden-Baden and Aschaffenburg.

The dead hare is suspended by its bound hind legs, its head lying on the ground, turned to the right. To his left lies a snipe. The bird hanging from the leg could be a grouse. There are other little birds lying on the ground ahead. A net used for catching birds can be seen behind the hare. The basis of the coloring are shades of brown, supplemented by some red and blue-gray tones in the feathers.
