Biography
In 1877 he was introduced to Jozef Brandt and, as his pupil, spent all his summers at the painter's estate in Oronsko. He was sent to the Warsaw Drawing Class, where he studied painting with Aleksander Kaminski and Wojciech Gerson until 1885. With Brandt's financial assistance, he left for further studies in Munich. He studied at the Munich Academy in 1886-87 and perhaps in 1888 in the studio of Nikolaus Gysis. He returned to Warsaw permanently around 1889, and in 1902 went on a tour of Europe. He toured Belgium, France, Italy, visited Vienna and Budapest, among others. He actively participated in artistic life. He belonged to art societies: Society of Polish Artists "Art", Detachment, Pro Arte and the Club of Polish Watercolorists. In 1894-96 and 1903-15 he was a member of the committee of the Society for the Encouragement of Fine Arts in Warsaw, as well as the Council of the Institute of Art Propaganda. He painted rural and genre scenes, landscapes, portraits and flowers. He created many atmospheric depictions of girls of Lowicz and silhouettes of fishermen. Later in his career, he was already using mainly watercolors. He devoted much attention and time to plein air studies. At the turn of the century, he also made polychromes for churches in Sobota, Głuchów, Mydłowie Opatowskie and the cathedral in Włocławek, as well as interior decorations for several Warsaw cafes.
