Austrian landscape painter. Son of theater painter Franz Josef, grandson of Baroque painter Matthias. He studied with his father in Graz, then went to Vienna to study at the Academy of Fine Arts with Leopold Kupelwieser (1833). Two years later he became a well-known and sought-after painter. His paintings were regularly exhibited at Academy exhibitions. He painted mainly landscapes of Lower Austria, Salzburg, Styria and Salzkammergut. He often traveled to Lake Garda and Switzerland
