The work is framed in a stylish new frame
Alfred Swieykowski (1869-1953), son of a Polish émigré. Initially he studied painting at the State Higher School of Fine Arts in Paris under Ferdinand Cormon. Between 1894 and 1921, he exhibited his works at the Salons of French Artists. From 1927 he was a member of the Societe Nationale des Beaux-Arts group of artists. In 1937 he was awarded a gold medal. Initially he worked in the Classical style, and later most of his work was typical of the Impressionists, but some of his paintings bore characteristics bordering on Fauvism. He traveled a lot, his paintings mainly depicting views of Paris, Normandy, Brittany and the Alps. In addition, he created portraits, floral compositions and interiors.
