The works of Aleksander Makowski (1869 - 1924), undoubtedly a talented painter, appear more and more frequently on the antiquarian market. Although there is no data about him in the sources, he can be considered a fully professional artist, whose interests focus on the theme of native landscapes and genre scenes with horses, sleighs in the snow, sleigh rides, thus close to the tradition of early 20th century painting - along with its national and patriotic message. The atmospheric landscape with birch trees bears witness to the mastery, both of composition and painterly rendering of the realistic view of the pre-evening moment, with the changing colors of clouds and water in the setting sun, aptly rendered by painterly means. Fans of realism in painting may find this landscape of great interest. The work is signed at the bottom, in verso, "A. Makowski".
