The illustrations to The Iliad were created by Wyspianski at the request of Lucjan Rydel, who translated the work in 1896.They were originally published in "Tygodnik Ilustrowany" in October and November 1896.After some changes, they went into the offered book edition. Wyspianski is also the author of the text's column layout, the arrangement of the illustrations on the columns and the cover design. The upper part of the cover bears the bilingual title, the lower part bears the date: Cracoviae MDCCCCIII, and the central part features a two-color vignette depicting bellflowers. Wyspianski's cover for The Iliad is among his most beautiful illustrative works.
