"Hide and Stek" oil, canvas, 50 x 50
The title of Wojciech Brewka's work refers to the game of hide-and-seek that a cat usually engages in with humans, making contact with them only on their own terms. The animal's watchful gaze is meant to remind us of its predatory nature - it can be an invitation to play, but it can also precede an attack on potential prey. The lucky chosen ones experience the former, the rest must submit to the law of nature.
Wojciech Brewka is a painter, colorist, street art artist, creator of large-scale murals, originator and producer of the Permeation Festival. Deconstructing both portraiture, allegory and animalism as a genre of painting, he places, among other things, images of animals on contrasting backgrounds in a surprising, camp, ironic, often social context.
Many of Brewka's works are part of the equality and environmental education trend, and the author himself is keen to support charitable initiatives.
