All'origine della forma, 2009 Carla Accardi (Trapani, 1924 - Rome, 2014) Carla Accardi, born Carolina Accardi, was one of the first Italian women to devote herself to abstractionism, turning her research to the constant exaltation of color and sign. In 1947 she was among the founders of the "Forma 1" group together with such important figures as Attardi, Consagra, Dorazio, Guerrini, Perilli, Turcato and Sanfilippo, united by the same conviction that art should be free of allegorical meanings. She then continued working alone and occasionally with the group "MAC - Movimento Arte Concreta." Her artistic research is based on two pivotal principles: on the one hand there is abstractionism understood as a reduction to the essential of forms and signs going to eliminate all symbolic and allegorical meanings of the composition, and on the other her commitment to demonstrate that the female artist was free to depict and represent strong messages, on a par with her male colleagues, going to break down the stereotype of the time of the female artist as the creator of works with delicate themes and colors because of their gender.
