Alberto Savinio Le poetè signed (lower right) pencil and white lead on paper 27 x 21.2 cm Executed in 1931 Work registered at the Alberto Savinio Archives, Rome, with No. 1931-8, as authenticated on photograph Provenance: Private collection Alberto Savinio (Athens, August 25, 1891 - Rome, May 5, 1952) Alberto Savinio was a pyrotechnic artist and experimenter who ranged between music, painting, stage design, polemics and criticism. His world is characterized by a sarcastic humor, at times melancholy, but always cheerful and vital, which differs from that of his brother Giorgio de Chirico. During his Parisian years (1930s), affected by his brother's formal language, Savinio decided to accentuate the symbolic, evocative and literary scope in his artistic creation. In terms of technique, he is distinguished by a more filamentous brushstroke and a more nuanced chiaroscuro. In this period, moreover, his paintings are increasingly enriched by a less veiled irony and a great visionary capacity, which is the product of his restless spirit, nourished by different experiences and contaminations.
