CZĘSTOCHOWA. A shtamble belonging to a resident of Czestochowa with the initials J.W. Most of the entries are from 1844-49, but there are also later ones from 1851 and 1854. Most likely it belonged to a pupil of the Czestochowa boarding school. This is indicated by the number of entries from 1845, which were dominated by the motif of separation. Entries in Polish, French and German, totaling 22. The stammbuch was illustrated with floral motifs and allegorical scenes. The first pages of the shtambouche feature a Biedermayer-esque sticker of the period: With best wishes for the name day. Probably from the donors. Perhaps parents? Extremely nice binding with gilded floral motifs and initials J.W., gilded page edges; bdb condition.
