Do you like to get intentionally lost? I love to. I always prefer local roads to the highway, and it usually leads me to the most interesting places. The landscapes I create begin their life precisely as a result of getting physically (literally?) lost. When I get to the end of the map, I can reflect on the world around me in peace and solitude. Then, in the studio, I try to find a way how to transfer the remembered impressions onto canvas. The overriding goal for me, is always to transfer into a painting the emotions, forms, colors or sometimes even afterimages that a particular place evoked in me. When creating, I like to get lost in different ways, searching and testing new media, forms, techniques. Sometimes out of this momentary chaos something will emerge that stands in opposition to the calming landscapes that have inspired me. Surreal demons emerge that somewhere deeper or shallower lie dormant in most of us. I see art as a path, and the path as a meditation and a way to achieve tranquility. This path, I hope, has no end, because there should always be something worth discovering.
