In the paintings of Katarzyna Karpowicz, emotions and dreams intertwine with reality, creating a narrative filled with subtle nostalgia. In the artist's paintings a large role is played by the sky, often cluttered and disturbing, corresponding to the expression of the story depicted on the canvas. In the case of the presented work, however, this space is missing. All that can be seen is a couple, naked and vulnerable to each other, lost in a flurry of affection. The only protection for the figures seems to be the tall branches. They surround the scene of the titular kiss, creating an ornamental frame. This dreamlike canvas is perfectly in line with Karpovich's work, which is easily attributed to the trend of magical realism.

Born 1985 in Cracow, Poland. In 2005, she graduated with honors from the National High School of Fine Arts there. She studied at the Faculty of Painting of the Jan Matejko Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow in the studio of Professor Grzegorz Bednarski and in the studio of Professor Leszek Misiak. She defended her diploma with an excellent grade in 2010. She lived and painted in Hungary in Budapest (2013-2015), and later in England (2015-2016) in Pangbourne. Katarzyna Karpowicz's works are in many collections at home and abroad, as well as in the collection of the Museum of Contemporary Art in Gdansk. In 2019 she won the Anna Maria Siemieńska Grazella Foundation's creative scholarship for outstanding young artists.
