Pomerania, Bogusław (Bogislaw) XIV, ducat n.d. (1633), Szczecin mint.

Obv. BOGISL XIV D G D ST PO (Bogislaus XIV, Dei gratia dux Stetini Pomeraniaeque).

Rv. nine-field shield with three helmets and crests.

Gold, 3.42 g, 23.2 mm. Kopicki 4288 (R8); Olding 188; Hildisch 289; col. Pogge 1012; Friedberg 2101.

Grade: VF, slightly bent, minor crack on the edge of the flan, beautiful portrait of the last prince of the House of Griffin. Very rare.

Although locally slightly worn, a very rare and beautiful piece for ambitious collections. Bogusław XIV's ducats, intended mainly as pay for the troops fighting in the Thirty Years' War, were modelled on imperial ducats. The Szczecin mint as a manufacturer is a guess - the ducats with three helmets are clearly different from the signed products of the Koszalin mint. Ex Roma Numismatics.
