Diocletian; AV Aureus (before the monetary reform); Cyzicus; 286-287.

Obv. Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust of Diocletian to the right, captured "three-quarters" from behind. IMP C C VAL DIO[CL]ETIANVS AVG.

Rv. Naked Jupiter with a cloak over his left shoulder standing to the left, holding a long sceptre in the left hand and a thunderbolt in the right hand. IOVI CO – [NS]ER - VATORI around, SC* in the exergue.

Gold, 4.75 g, 20 mm, 1h. Calico 4488; Depeyrot 6/3; see. RIC V.2 p. 251 no. 296-297.

At 12h on the obverse, there is a circular hole. A specimen with identical dies is known - Ira & Larry Goldberg Coins & Collectibles Inc., Auction 70, 4.9.2012, lot 3385.
