A beautiful medal commemorating the election of Augustus II the Strong as king of Poland.
Depicting him as the "Hercules of Saxony" as he makes his way toward the Polish crown with a whipped hydra at his feet.
Exquisite medal mirror preserved in shielded background fragments. The relief of the coin is also beautiful. Only open areas of the background without mint luster, with minor cuts. Very good position.
On the rim an inscription (different from Raczynski) with a chronogram of the date 1697 - EN / VICIT DENIQVE DIGNVS CVIVS PRAECINXIT CELSA CORONA CAPVT.D.XV.SEPT- +.
On the shoulder signed G.H. (Georg Hautsch)
Accompanied by a small card from an old collection (Dr. Hartmann, purchase at auction 1951).
Silver, diameter 42.9 mm, weight 27.93 g.
Recommended.
Obverse: Bust of Augustus II the Strong in armor, to the right, in the rim legend:
FRID . AVG . D . G . ELECT . SAX - IN REGEM POLON - ELECT - 1697
[Frederick Augustus by God's grace Elector of Saxony elected King 1697].
Reverse: King in full figure and armor, trampling a hydra, holding a mace in his left hand, in front of him a goddess handing him a crown. In the rim the legend:
NEC ME LABOR ILLE GRAVABIT; in the segment HERCVLI SAXONICO.
[This work will not burden me / To Hercules the Saxon].
