Between 1955 and 1960, he attended the National High School of Fine Arts in Wroclaw. From 1960-1966 he studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Cracow, at the Faculty of Painting and Graphic Arts. He studied easel and architectural painting in the studio of Prof. Waclaw Taranczewski, while he studied printmaking under Prof. Mieczyslaw Wejman. He received his diploma with honors in 1966. Promoters of his diploma thesis included Waclaw Taranczewski, Czeslaw Rzepinski, Jonasz Stern and Hanna Rudzka-Cybisowa. Since 1966, he has been a member of the Association of Polish Artists. His oeuvre includes more than 70 solo exhibitions and participation in some 80 group exhibitions, where he has won prizes and awards. He has twice received the Scholarship of the Minister of Culture and Art. Paintings by Eugeniusz Gerlach can be found in many museums and institutions, as well as in private collections at home and abroad (including Canada, USA, France, Germany, Sweden, Austria, South Africa and Japan).
